Turt
Wood Turtle
Glyptemys insculpta
Turt was brought to the Shaver’s Creek Nature Center in Pennsylvania for rehabilitation after being struck by a car. Unfortunately, due to her injuries she was unable to be released back into the wild. She arrived at the VINS Nature Center in 1984, and became our educational ambassador. VINS is lucky to have Turt! She helps to educate the public about the threats Wood Turtles and many other turtles face.
A charismatic animal, Turt is always eager to come out of her tank and roam the classroom to say hi during “Turtle Time”. In summertime, she spends mornings outside, enjoying the warmth and soaking up the natural sunlight. Her every day meal is prepared just how Turt likes it – some of her favorite foods are strawberries, blueberries, meal worms, and live earthworms. Turt is easily loved by all due to her determined and playful personality.
